The performance of IPL remains such that even the ICC has had to bow down to it. Recently, the sale of media rights of IPL became a topic of discussion all over the world. The IPL became the second richest sports league in the world after the rights were sold for a record amount, even surpassing the English Premier League. Seeing the growing status of IPL, BCCI is already planning to expand it.

With the arrival of two new teams ahead of season 2022, it has become a 10-team competition and is likely to expand further. Obviously for this the number of matches will also have to be increased and foreign cricket boards will have to make their program accordingly. Because cricketers from all over the world are eager to leave their country to be a part of IPL, so ICC also has a big responsibility to make plans on IPL keeping in mind the interests of the player along with the game.

Flucher Tour Program (FTP)

According to the report of ESPNcricinfo, the ICC has given an extended window of two and a half months to the IPL in the latest Future Tour programme.

Flücher Tour Program (FTP) is one that refers to matches held during a time cycle of full members of the ICC. This time the FTP of 12 full members cycles till 2023-27 which includes two ICC World Test Championship cycles, one ICC event and several bilateral series.

Meaning of IPL getting more space in FTP

The IPL getting more space in the FTP means that there will be very few international games during this competition. BCCI was already trying a lot in this regard and it has paid off. This will mean that you as a spectator will be able to see more and more foreign stars playing in the competition for a long time.

74 matches will be played in the 2023 and 2024 seasons. 84 games are expected to be played in the 2025 and 2026 seasons and a maximum of 94 matches are expected to be played in the 2027 season.

Rest of the T20 league will be jealous

Leagues similar to IPL are also played in Australia and England which are named Big Bash League and The Hundred respectively but here you will see a shorter window as compared to the Indian Premier League.

The three-week period will be cleared in England in July and August so that The Hundred can also be played with the big stars.

Each board has opened a window for its league

Similarly, Cricket Australia has kept away from white-ball international games in January to allow its players to participate in the BBL.

The same has been done by West Indies Cricket Board for CPL and Bangladeshi Cricket Board for BPL. South Africa is also coming up with its new T20 franchise league. T20 league is also coming in UAE. The Pakistan board has already left the window for the PSL which is scheduled to be played in February-March (2023), January-February (2024) and December-January (2026-27).
