How does UPI work?
There are three ways to transfer money through UPI - by entering the receiver's virtual payment address (VPA), account number and IFSC code or QR code.
To use UPI, you must have a bank account with a member bank, ie your bank allows you to use the UPI facility. In addition, your mobile number should be registered with your bank account. A virtual payment address will be created to make the payment.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has developed a technology that does not require any mobile application to transfer funds using UPI. The technology called USSD 2.0 enables mobile device users, even those who do not have internet connectivity, to transfer money using UPI. USSD 2.0 uses the dialing option -- *99# -- to provide this facility. While there is no app interface, transactions are possible through an interactive menu displayed on the mobile screen.
The major services offered under *99# service include interbank account to account remittance, balance enquiry, setting or changing UPI PIN, among other services. *99# The service is currently provided by 41 leading banks and all GSM service providers and can be accessed in 12 different languages including Hindi and English.

How to transfer money using UPI without internet connectivity
Step 1: Dial *99# from your registered mobile number.
Step 2: Select your bank account.
Step 3: Now enter the last six digits of your debit card.
Step 4: Now enter the expiry date of your debit card.
Step 5: Now confirm the UPI PIN. Once you have done this, you will be able to use this service on your mobile phone.
Step 6: Dial *99# from your registered mobile number to transfer money.
Step 7: To send money, press 1 button and press send.
Step 8: Now select the option which you want to use for money transfer. You can choose 1 for mobile number, 3 for UPI ID, 4 for saved beneficiary and 5 for IFSC.
Step 9: Now enter the amount you want to send and then type your UPI PIN.
Once the transfer is complete, you will receive a message for its successful completion.
